Welcome to the Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme created by Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in the literary universe.  If you want to join us next week, check out next week’s predetermined them, choose a book, compare two or more different covers available for that book, then name your favorite. A list of future weeks’ themes are available at Lynn’s Book Blog.

This week’s theme is:

‘My what big teeth you have’ – a cover featuring a cloaked figure!

Cloaked figure?  Wow, there must be hundreds of fantasy novels with exactly this sort of cover.  It will probably take me hours to weed through them all and find one I particularly love.  Be back in a bit.

[Hours Pass]

Well, that was harder than I thought.  Too many options.  Not enough with more than one cover choice.  But I finally found one, and here it is . . .

Agree. The original cover is the best!!

I agree but thats because it’s the original /I own it/sentimental. I actually think Crysania’s head looks turned awkwardly. I also think I’ve commented on this book on your blog before 🙂

The other covers are too romance-y.

  3. First, I like the older art style choice! I do enjoy the art itself of the your choice cover, but I’ve always been uncertain about the border on they put around it on the cover. The way they do the border on the seconded cover though, I love that.

I love that art. Crysania was the first time I ever found a fantasy art girl beautiful.

  5. I like the first as well. And the last – I am a fan of those ‘old-school’ covers!

I don’t like the second one – the lady looks like she could be on one of those cheesy highlander romance novels

  6. It’s fascinating to see four different artists’ take on the same theme! Your favorite is mine as well.

I agree, the original is definitely my favourite 😀 But oh my, he does look rather creepy there – and slightly ill… green with envy? with magic sickness? with demonic tendencies? only one way to find out…

Most definitely the original cover! Have a look and decide for yourself…
