Book Traveling Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Catia and Danielle. Each week everyone picks a book related to that week’s theme, then you write a blog post explaining explain why you choose that book and spotlight all the different covers from different countries. To find out more check out about BTT go to the Goodreads group!
This week’s theme is: HALLOWEEN IS HERE! Choose a spooky read that you have either read or want to read.
Now, I’m not a big horror fan, so I really don’t have a lot of novels to pick from, but whenever I think of the book which scared me the most when I read it I always come back to Stephen King’s The Stand. This story giving me the damn creeps for weeks after I put it down, specifically the first half of the book dealing with the flu pandemic. The scenario so damn realistic it horrified me.
ORIGINAL COVER
The cover of the book which I read many years ago. I always thought it was somewhat weird, but it is the one my memories always grab hold of when I think of The Stand.
FAVORITE COVERS
Favorite is really a misnomer here, because I don’t really love either of these covers. They are okay. The best of the rest of the bunch perhaps, but not anything to get real excited about.
LEAST FAVORITE COVERS
It was actually really hard to narrow my “Least Favorite Cover”examples down to just four. Honestly, I hate nearly all the covers for this classic novel. None of them capture the essence of what the book is about in my opinion.
So that is my Book Traveling Thursdays: Halloween is Here Edition. Agree or disagree with my book selection and my covers? Let me know.
Yeah, none of those are really “good” are they? I’m a fan of the Uncut edition, but that is only because that is the edition I read and so “association” and all that…

Honestly, you’d think some artist would have captured the feeling of this novel after all these years. Weird that none of the covers are very good.

The edition I own is the original cover (hardcover). That one is my favorite but I also a big fan of the second cover you have show in your least favorite. Other than those two – not really a fan of any.
Isn’t there supposed to be a moving coming out for this too? (Eventually? Lol) I heard that the director who had been planning on doing decided to put it on hold to do Revival instead, but(!) still plans on doing The Stand in the future. The point of bringing that up is, I hope they do an (good) updated cover if a movie does happen.

Not sure about the movie. I’ll research that. The tv miniseries from the 90s was okay as I recall. I didn’t hate it, though I can’t say I’ve ever felt any need to re-watch it.
It really is sad how they can’t seem to find a cover to do justice to this amazing novel.

The cover with the crow on the desolate road leading to the city is a very powerful one, indeed.
