The wrapping paper from Christmas gifts hasn’t even settled in the landfill, and I’m already making my list for all the gifts I want the beginning of 2018.  I suppose I just have to accept I have a book problem and build on to my house, so I’ll have more room to store them all.

BLOOD OF THE FOURBlood of the Four

Blessed by the gods with lives of comfort and splendor, the royal elite routinely perform their duties, yet some chafe at their role. A young woman of stunning ambition, Princess Phela refuses to allow a few obstacles—including her mother the queen and her brother, the heir apparent—stand in the way of claiming ultimate power and glory for herself.

Far below the royals are the Bajuman. Poor and oppressed, members of this wretched caste have but two paths out of servitude: the priesthood . . . or death.

Because magic has been kept at bay in Quandis, royals and Bajuman have lived together in an uneasy peace for centuries. But Princess Phela’s desire for power will disrupt the realm’s order, setting into motion a series of events that will end with her becoming a goddess in her own right . . . or ultimately destroying Quandis and all its inhabitants.

  1. Wrath of Empire is the one I’m most looking forward to, having greatly enjoyed its predecessor. And before it comes out I might have finally finished reading the original trilogy: only The Autumn Republic remains…

  2. A suggestion: maybe give a few personal words as to why you’re excited by these books? I can find publisher’s blurbs anywhere, and I think that if you want to interest people in books (and sell them!), a personal touch can really help. These days, we see so many buy-these-books-because-these-are-the-people-who-are-paying-me-to-link-to-them posts, I think we tend to mentally skip over them, whereas when someone actually explains why THEY, as an individual, are excited about something, that can help get ME excited about it too.
    Anyway, just a thought.

[I am not excited for any of these, only even know the names of a few of the authors, and will probably remain unexcited until someone gives me a reason why these particular books, out of all the hundreds of other ones, should excite me.]

I am really looking forward to A Time of Dread. I was somehow completely unaware of the the other ones on your list, so now it looks like I have even more to add to my 2018 list! Blood of the Four and The Brass God sound particularly intriguing. Nice list and happy reading next year!

I love that this list is fantasy specific! I added most of these to my TBR. I’ve been looking for some brand new adult fantasy, and these look fantastic.
